Was Warfield’s middle name spelled Breckinridge or Breckenridge?
It is fairly common to see Warfield’s middle name spelled with an e rather than an i. For example, see Geoff Thomas’s article “Benjamin Breckenbridge [sic] Warfield” at BannerofTruth.org. (A Google search on April 4, 2009 for “Benjamin Breckenridge Warfield” returned 897 results, while a search for “Benjamin Breckinridge Warfield” returns 20,300.) This varience is no doubt the result of Breckenridge being the more common spelling for the name. However, Warfield himself spelled his name Breckinridge.
